Draw Analyse: Apia International Sydney

Hi everyone,

A new day...a new tournament: welcome to Sydney!

Immediately introducing last year's finalist. Kim eventually lost to Na Li, but no worries, she got her revenge in last year's Australian Open! Will Na Li be able to defend her title here?

Let's take a peek at this year's draw beginning with the upperdraw:

It's clear there's a strong playing field this year! Will especially await the Petkovic - Pavly duel and the match between Jankovic and Goerges in the first round! If Petkovic can withstand Pavly's game, she'll be up against Radwanska next. Remember these two played last year's final in China with Radwanska winning in 3 weird sets. Head to head 0-5, can Petkovic start the year good and do something about that piece of statistic? If I have to pick the four quarter finalists from this draw then, I'll go with: Wozniacki, Petkovic (I always choose the underdog), Azarenka and Bartoli (not much competition coming up for here).

The downdraw is literally packed with great players! A couple of these could easily be fourth rounds in Grandslams! I'll certainly watch: Zvonareva - Kuznetsova (probably Russian fight until the death!) and Stosur - Schiavone (why oh why Sammy, do you have so much bad luck in draws?!) and then maybe I should study for my exams just a little bit! My guess for the other quarter finalists: Zvonareva, Na Li, Schiavone (if she's not still sick like in Brisbane) and Lisicki (wishful thinking, I know because Kvitova played wonderfully in the Hopman Cup last week).

Awesome matches await indeed in Sydney, everybody wants to prepare for the Australian Open by beating some high ranked opponents. Let the tennis battles begin and of course, you can read everything about it right here!
